Horary Astrology Guide: Getting Answers Without Birth Time

Discover how Horary astrology (Prashna Kundli) answers specific questions using the moment you ask, perfect when birth time is unknown.

    What is Horary Astrology?

Horary astrology, also known as Prashna Kundli in Vedic tradition, is a powerful branch of astrology that answers specific questions by casting a chart for the exact moment the question is asked, not the moment you were born.

This makes Horary astrology incredibly valuable when:

    • You don't know your birth time
    • You have an urgent, specific question
    • You want a quick yes/no answer
    • You need to verify birth chart predictions

The chart is cast for the time and place where I, the astrologer, receive and understand your question. This "moment of reception" becomes the birth of your question, and the chart reveals its answer.

    How Does Horary Work?

The Ruling Planets Method (KP Horary)

In KP Horary, I use the Ruling Planets at the moment your question is received:

    1. 1. Day Lord: The planet ruling the weekday
    2. 2. Star Lord (Moon): The nakshatra where Moon is placed
    3. 3. Sub-lord (Moon): The sub-division of that nakshatra
    4. 4. Lagna Lord: The ascendant ruler at that moment
    5. 5. Lagna Star Lord: The nakshatra where ascendant falls
    6. 6. Lagna Sub-lord: The sub-division of that nakshatra

These 6 ruling planets hold the key to your answer. If they are significators of the houses related to your question, the answer is YES. If they block or contradict those houses, the answer is NO.

    Example Question:

"Will I get this job offer?"

    Houses to check:

    • • 2nd house: Wealth gain
    • • 6th house: Service/employment
    • • 10th house: Profession
    • • 11th house: Fulfillment of desires

If 4 or more ruling planets are connected to these houses (as lords, star-lords, or sub-lords), the answer is YES, you'll get the offer.

    When Should You Use Horary?

    Perfect Situations for Horary:

    • No birth time: You were adopted, born at home, or records are lost
    • Urgent decisions: Job offer expires tomorrow, need answer now
    • Specific binary questions: "Should I buy this house?" "Will I win this case?"
    • Lost items: "Where is my passport?" "Will I recover my stolen laptop?"
    • Relationship clarity: "Does he/she love me?" "Will we reconcile?"
    • Business decisions: "Should I partner with this person?" "Will this deal succeed?"

    When NOT to Use Horary:

    • Testing the astrologer ("I already know the answer, let's see if they're right")
    • Asking the same question repeatedly to get a different answer
    • Very vague questions ("What does my future hold?")
    • Questions with no genuine concern behind them

    Important Rule:

Horary works best when the question is asked with genuine concern and urgency. If you're casually curious or testing, the chart becomes unreliable. The sincerity of the question energizes the chart.

How I Use Horary in Consultations

During a Decision Consultation, if your birth time is uncertain (±10 minutes or more), I automatically switch to Horary. Here's my process:

    Step 1: Question Formulation

I help you frame your question as a clear, specific binary:

    • Too vague: "What about my career?"
    • Clear: "Should I accept the job offer from Company X?"

    Step 2: Chart Casting

I cast the Horary chart for the moment I understood your question (usually during our phone/Zoom call, or when I read your booking form).

    Step 3: Ruling Planets Analysis

I identify the 6 ruling planets and check their connection to the relevant houses for your question.

    Step 4: Timing Windows

If the answer is YES, I provide specific timing windows (dates or day ranges) when the event is most likely to occur. If NO, I explain why and what blocks exist.

    Step 5: Action Steps

Whether yes or no, I give you 3 concrete actions to maximize favorable outcomes or minimize negative impacts.

    Real Client Examples

    Case 1: Job Offer Decision

Question: "Should I accept the consulting offer from Company A or wait for Company B?"

Chart Time: January 10, 2025, 3:42 PM ET (when I received the question)

Ruling Planets: Mercury, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mars

Analysis: 5 out of 6 ruling planets were significators of 2-6-10-11 houses (job gain)

Answer: YES, accept Company A's offer

Timing: Offer confirmation within 5 days; start date around January 28

    Case 2: Lost Passport

Question: "Will I find my lost passport before my flight on Saturday?"

Chart Time: Tuesday, 11:20 AM PT

Analysis: Ruling planets connected to 2nd house (possessions) and Moon in movable sign

    Answer: YES, you'll find it

Location guidance: Check near water-related areas or kitchen; found it in a bag near the sink

    Combining Horary with Birth Chart

Ideally, I use both methods when birth time is available:

    • Birth Chart: Shows your overall career potential, relationships patterns, Mahadasha timing
    • Horary: Answers the specific question "Should I take this job right now?"

This dual approach gives you both long-term context and immediate clarity.

However, if birth time is unavailable or very uncertain, Horary alone is sufficient and highly accurate for decision-making.

    Getting Started with Horary

If you have an urgent question and no reliable birth time, here's what to do:

    1. 1. Formulate a clear question (yes/no or specific choice)
    2. 2. Book a Decision Consultation
    3. 3. Mention "birth time uncertain" in your booking
    4. 4. I'll use Horary automatically during our session
    5. 5. Get your answer + timing windows same day

If your birth time is reliable, I'll use KP with your birth chart. If not, I switch to Horary, and you still get precise, actionable guidance either way.

For those who want to confirm their birth time first, consider Birth-Time Rectification before booking a full consultation.

When Horary Is the Right Tool

Horary astrology is not a "lesser" alternative to birth chart astrology. It's a powerful, standalone method that has been used for centuries to answer specific questions with remarkable accuracy.

Whether you know your birth time or not, Horary ensures you get the clarity and timing guidance you need to make confident decisions.

If you have a pressing question and need answers fast, Horary is your solution.
